The leading consultant and media expert Dr. Yasser Abd El
Aziz gave a great and fruitful seminar in College of Language and Communication
(CLC), Miami campus part of Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime
(AASTMT) under the title “ How to be a good journalist?”
At the beginning of the seminar, Dr. Yasser introduced
himself and he greeted the audience, then he started telling a story that has 4
different narrations because it has 4 characters – a young lady and 3 men- with
4 different perspectives. He then asked the students to rewrite the story from the
right perspective in their opinion.
According to the stories that some of the students wrote, he
gave some tips that according to him “Without them, you won’t be good
journalists”. Some of these tips were to be objective as possible, do not
presuppose, do not label or stereotype someone and do not fabricate facts, if
you do not have full information about something, search for it or don’t
mention it at all.
At the end of the seminar, the students asked some quite
important questions about media and journalism, how to stay neutral and how to
apply the newspaper’s policy at the same time, and his answers were very
useful, helpful and to the point.
